About the area
The Town of Caesarea
Caesarea is undoubtedly one of the most unique and lovely locations in Israel, in the world! A popular tourist destination, no wonder people describe it as a mix of ancient Rome and modern Beverly Hills.
An ancient city thrived here – it was the capital of Israel thousands of years ago. For archaeology buffs, for scholars of Christianity, for followers of history, this town offers myriad possibilities. The magnificent harbor boasts an underwater marine archaeology park, extensive archaeological ruins, wonderful restaurants, galleries and shops. It is an active site year-round and one can sit at the harbor in mid January enjoying the magnificent sunshine while dining on fresh fish and chilled Chardonnay.
Caesarea is run by a private corporation – named for the Baron Edmund de Rothschild. The streets are kept spanking clean, the sidewalks immaculate, the parks beautifully landscaped and the public areas meticulously maintained. There are no unsightly electric or telephone poles in Caesarea – the infrastructure is buried below ground (a smart planning feature from the early days).
Located in the archeological section is an ancient amphitheater, still in use today, a hippodrome, remains of a palace, a bustling seaport, a fascinating visitor center, galleries and eateries. The Industrial Area, one mile east of the residential area, is a smart technological park and one of the prettiest in Israel. It includes hi-tech offices; popular restaurants; a post office and event venues/wedding halls.
The western part of the residential area includes a commercial center; country club with high-end gym facilties; tennis courts; synagogue; mikveh; elementary school; youth center; parks; pathways leading to the beach and a unique preserved archeological site (the apparent home of a very important person two thousand years ago)
One doesn’t have to leave this house to enjoy the glory of Caesarea – just sit in the backyard and listen to the sounds of music wafting over from a concert at the amphitheater – usually followed by spectacular fireworks! You have front row seats!
